About The Ritz London

History

César Ritz opened the Ritz on Piccadilly in 1906, the first steel-framed building in London and the first major hotel in the city designed in the French Louis XVI style. It was bought by the Barclay brothers in 1995 and underwent a meticulous restoration that restored the gilding, carpets, and Palm Court ceiling to their Edwardian state. It holds a royal warrant for hotel services from King Charles III.

Neighbourhood

The Ritz looks south onto Green Park and west toward Piccadilly's traffic; its postcode straddles Mayfair and St James's, the latter still home to gentlemen's clubs, Lock & Co. hatters, and Fortnum & Mason a few doors down. Piccadilly itself is busy, but the hotel's main entrance and the residents' garden insulate guests from the street noise.

The experience

Tea at the Palm Court remains the hotel's signature - dress code is strictly enforced - and the Ritz Restaurant retains a Michelin star. The hotel also operates a private casino accessed from inside, one of only a handful in London.
